We had a fantastic Christmas break in California with Scott's family. Kiana got her Christmas wish and we went to the beach pretty much everyday. As always we got spoiled with attention by Grammy and Papa Dave and loved every minute of it. We had plenty of the best super tacos ever (seriously). Now when you ask Donovan where he wants to eat he appropriately replies "Super Taqueria." Yeah, it was amazing and we miss it.

Hooray Donovan finally has a cousin in Arizona! Jared & Kayla had baby Evlyn in May and we are so happy to have a cousin close by.

Scott's Surprise Party

With the new baby coming too close to Scott's actual 30th birthday something had to be done to show him how special he is. So we had his 30th birthday party 2 months early, needless to say he was VERY surprised and it took him a little while to put it all together. Thanks to all our friends and family who helped it was lots of fun to celebrate our Super Scotty.

Easter

Easter morning Scott brought D into our room and was talking to him about what a special day it was. He told him it was Sunday and we get to go to church and to nursery and its a very special day, do you know why? To which Donovan replied "Jesus." We were going to say the Easter Bunny came, good thing we have him around to keep us in line.

We were so lucky to have Grammy & Papa Dave come visit. Donovan loved all the special attention and still talks about all the fun stuff we did together, the train park by far his favorite.

Donny is now 2 years old. Nani, Papa, Jared, Kayla & Leah came over to celebrate with us. His favorite parts were playing hide & seek, eating cake, opening presents, and wearing hats. He still asks for birthday cake and loves all his new toys.

Donovan's last free flight

We had a super fun trip to Boca Raton, Florida to visit the Ladle's. Boca is jammed packed with fun things to do and we loved every minute of it. Notice how great the Ladle kids are at taking pictures, Donovan not so great. Thanks to all who made our trip possible and oh so special. Donny still talks about his cousins and Goose and most of all the beach.

The Don's First Birthday

Grammy and Papa Dave came in March to visit so Donovan got to open presents with them early. (Doesn't it kinda look like that's Donny's giant right hand around my mom?)

He plays the music on this toy everyday and dances until he falls over - so funny!

On his birthday we took him to the Phoenix Zoo and had Nani, Papa and Granny over for a BBQ.

His first haircut.

Donny loves his new wagon and Scott loves taking him everywhere in it. What is it with boys and wagons? Although this one is pretty sweet its fully loaded though with seat belts, secret compartments and cup holders.

Our friends invited us to stay at their magnifical beach house in Santo Thomas, Mexico. It's a little place (like 25 houses) 45 miles east of Rocky Point.

Highlights from the weekend included:

Getting passports the day of departure (3 hours before)

Carpooling with the Tenney's

Talking sports with the boys

Talking about everything BUT sports with the girls

Surviving the earthquake (prob around 4.5 where we were)

Four wheelers and sand dunes

Kayaks

Tons of dolphins

Huge ocean front view and secluded beach all to ourselves

Donovan loving the water

All stone showers with rainmaker showerheads

Late night games

Jack Johnson and Bob Marley soundtracking the whole weekend

Sonic ice machine! Seriously? ... seriously.

Deep life discussions on the roof after all the kids were down

Getting pulled over in Mexico and not getting a ticket (does that happen?)

Making it back through the US border 5 minutes (!) before closing

For halloween, we "went green".

The Don's first time seeing rain, ahhh Arizona.

He started cheezing all the time a couple weeks back, he makes this face and breathes really hard through his nose, pretty funny. Also, notice the cool shirt he's wearing.

These videos are kinda old. The first one is The Don's very first bites of solid food (rice cereal). The first bite was pretty funny, he loved it. The 2nd video is from a few weeks later, and its his first bites of flavored food (sweet taters). And it too is pretty funny, classic reaction. Funny kid; that Donovan.

and crawling, and chattin', and sitting up, and doing pushups, and...well... just growing up in general. Kinda like all other babies do I reckon, but ours is special ;-) We have been a bit lazy on the blogging front so we are playing catch up.

Shaman's wedding

We traveled to San Antonio for Shaman (Kiana's bro) and Heathers wedding. Road trippin it was ok, Donny didnt dig the car ride much, all 14 hours there and back. Other than that, the trip was good times. One quick story, during the wedding luncheon, someone was expounding on their love for Shaman and Heather and it was dead quiet. I had the Don sitting up on the table in front of me. He dove forward and smashed his face on the table squarely, of course he hit a glass full of water on the way down! Well, it was loud... and sad... and funny. He screamed and I evacuated him pronto. All was restored soon, but it was a fun little moment.

The Don did pretty good for the pictures, his tux was a big hit, ladies look out. But basically he took turns using different people as his personal mattress. Shaman first:

Donny really took a liking to Kiana's sister ChanNa. They have formed a fun bond and Donovan is always happy when he is around her.

Aunt Leah (lay-yuh) just left for her mission (Salt Lake City). We already miss her. We had such fun times this summer with her.

Of course on the trip The Don got his first tooth just imagine what a fun time that was... No he really did super. His fingers were a lifesaver. He now has his 2 bottom ones in and they are adorable.

We got to go to Malikai's football game, its a BIG deal in Texas. He is a star of course. His sister Kylie (shes the one with hands on hips) is a cheerleader for the team and their little brother Narci is his biggest fan (how great are his glasses too).

Birfdays: Kiana and Scott

Our birthdays both land in August. For mine we got to home to Salinas CA. Trips included the beach, Monterey, and of course SUPER TAAAAAAAAAAAQUERIA! We had a backyard bbq and good times.

Donny got to meet all kinds of new people: cousins Parker (the bear), Macy (the gardener) and Oliver (the dirtster?). And of course he met his great G-Mom and G-Pop.

We spent Kiana's bday in state. We went camping the weekend of, with most of her family (Donny did well). Craig and his hombre Mike spent the rest of the weekend with us. Of course, this did not go as smoothly as expected:

Saturday, about 1230 pm, we were at a baptism and I got a text. "car broke down, call when done". Long story, but basically the alternator busted about 4 miles from our house. They took it to get fixed and got a quote for $800! WHAT! In your dreams insane mechanic man! So what did we do? I did what I always do when car issues ensue, I call Kiana's dad, Marty. I simply dont make any car decisions without his approval. So of course he said, "I am on my way". So we bought the part (about $200) and tried to install the newbie (well, Marty did anyway). Craig and I can be seen below doing the Shipley pose: one arm braced, other arm on the hip, legs crossed and a look on the face that translates to "uh, uhm, hmmm, should I be doing something?". Yah, you know the one. Donny was barking orders from his chair as you can see. So a couple hours later we had it close but couldnt figure out a small detail so Martys mechanic came and sealed the deal for a small price, total cost for the fix was about $250, thanks Marty!

Sunday morning, Flow woke up to her favorite bday breakfast, german pancakes (kinda like egg-pie(!) for all you Shipleys). Then we spent the evening at Kianas parents house for dinner, games and gifts.
